Belfast tours: filling seats while you are out on the road

Belfast has become a city people come to see, from the Titanic Quarter and the murals to day trips up the coast. Many tours are run by small operators and independent guides who are busy guiding when questions arrive. This page shows how to sell seats from a chat, answer meeting-point and weather questions and keep everyone informed.

  • Tours with a fixed number of seats, no overbooking
  • Meeting points, pick-ups and weather rules answered from your entries
  • Changes posted to every channel at once

Tour day

A day for a two-person tour company in Belfast

A made-up business offering a city walking tour and a coastal day trip. Seats, pick-up points and the weather policy are saved in AYDUKE.

  1. 06:45Overnight, visitors from the US and mainland Europe booked eleven seats on tomorrow’s coastal trip. The assistant answered pick-up questions from the entries.
  2. 08:00The coastal trip leaves. Messages keep coming while the guide drives; the assistant handles them.
  3. 11:30A cruise passenger asks whether the walking tour can end near the port. That is not in the entries, so it is handed to the office.
  4. 14:00The walking tour is full for Saturday. The system offers Sunday to the next three people who ask.
  5. 19:00Back at base. The owner answers two handed-off questions and schedules a post with photos from the day.

What visitors want to know before they book a tour

  • What if it rains?

Tours usually run in rain; write down what happens in storms.

  • Is it suitable for children?

A cruise passenger with seven hours ashore

A made-up conversation through the operator’s website chat.

Customer: Hi, our ship is in Belfast on Thursday from 8am to 5pm. Can we do the walking tour and be back on time?
Assistant: Hi. The city walking tour takes two hours and starts at 10:00 and 14:00 from the City Hall gates. On Thursday the 10:00 tour has six seats left.
Customer: Two seats at 10 please. How do we get there from the port?
Assistant: According to the operator, the shuttle from the cruise terminal drops you in the city centre, a few minutes’ walk from the meeting point. I have booked two seats for 10:00; a confirmation email is on its way.
Sample conversation. The assistant only answers from the information you give it.

Seats came from the calendar and directions from the entries. Visitors receive confirmation and reminder emails, not texts.

Shipyards, murals and a city of visitors

Belfast grew around shipbuilding, and the cranes over the old shipyard still mark the skyline. The Titanic Quarter, the Cathedral Quarter with its pubs and music, St George’s Market at weekends and the murals of the west and east of the city draw visitors throughout the year. Film studios, universities and a growing tech scene are part of today’s city.

Many tours are run by small businesses: walking guides, black-taxi drivers, food tour hosts and coach operators running trips up the north coast. They spend their days with guests, not at a desk, and bookings come in from all over the world at all hours.

Northern Ireland also has its own public holidays, including St Patrick’s Day and 12 July. If your schedule changes on those days, put it in your entries so the assistant can say so.
