Frequently asked questions
What is negative marking?
A deduction for wrong answers to discourage guessing. Common in competitive exams: typically 0.25 (quarter mark) or 0.33 (third mark) per wrong answer.
How is the letter grade assigned?
Using the standard US scale: A = 93%+, A- = 90–92%, B+ = 87–89%, and so on. Different institutions may use different thresholds.
Should I guess if there is negative marking?
Statistically, guessing is neutral on a 4-option MCQ with 0.25 penalty. If you can eliminate one option, guessing becomes favourable.
