Frequently asked questions
How does IBAN validation work?
The IBAN's check digits (positions 3–4) are verified using modulo-97 arithmetic on the entire number. This catches transposition and digit errors.
Does this confirm the account exists?
No. Validation confirms correct format and check digits only. It does not query any bank to confirm the account is real or active.
Which countries use IBANs?
Over 80 countries, including all EU/EEA states, the UK, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and many others. The US and Canada do not use IBAN.
