Frequently asked questions
How is the check character calculated?
Characters at odd positions get one mapping, even positions another. The sum modulo 26 gives a letter (A=0, B=1…). This catches most typos.
Can two people have the same code?
Rarely. When a collision occurs (omocodia), the tax authority replaces numeric digits with letters to create a unique variant.
Does this verify the person exists?
No. It checks structural validity only. Confirmation requires the Agenzia delle Entrate database.
