About the Running Pace Calculator
Enter a distance and finish time to calculate your pace per kilometre or mile. The tool also predicts equivalent race times for standard distances (5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon) using the Riegel formula.
How to use the Running Pace Calculator
- Select a preset distance or enter a custom one.
- Enter your finish time (hours, minutes, seconds).
- Select metric or imperial display.
- View pace, speed and predicted race times.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good running pace?
It depends on experience. A recreational jogger might run 6:00–7:00 min/km. Competitive club runners aim for 4:00–5:00 min/km. Elites run sub-3:00 min/km for marathons.
How are race predictions calculated?
Using the Riegel formula: T2 = T1 × (D2/D1)^1.06. It assumes similar training and conditions across distances.
Does this account for elevation?
No. Pace is calculated on flat equivalent. Hilly courses will be slower; adjust expectations by roughly 5–10% for significant elevation gain.
